Pondicherry is a small town on the Coromandel Coast of India located at a distance of 162 km from south coast of Chennai. Pondicherry is now known as Puducherry which means ‘new village’. It was derived from a Tamil word. Pondicherry is mostly influenced by the French. The French had ruled this city for 300 years and hence residents of Pondicherry still follow the French culture.

Thus, Pondicherry is not only a popular tourist destination but also an important seat of education in India. Despite its small size, the number of educational institutions here are even more than larger cities elsewhere in India.
